Program
Speakers from The Language Archives at the Max Planck Institute in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Social and Language Documentation in Minde, Portugal, and from the National Library of Norway, will be presenting.
10:15 – 11:15 Alexander König: CMDI and the Component Registry
This talk will focus on the features and possibilities of this important tool and show how
it can be used within a typical CLARIN workflow for designing, creating and archiving metadata. It will look at the idea of a central repository with a limited number of reusable components and on the concept of linking elements and components to the ISOcat data category registry for increased interoperability.
11:30 – 12:30 Peter Bouda: Meta data for Speech data
This talk will present and demonstrate the tools that are currently available to create meta data for speech data in language documentation projects and how this kind of meta data is embedded in the CLARIN infrastructure. We will focus on current developments around metadata within the working group 3 of CLARIN-D.
12:30 Lunch (arranged)
14:15 – 15:15 Oddrun Pauline Ohren: Using CMDI in CLARINO
This talk will give a brief overview of CLARINO, including the role and responsibility of the National Library.
Then we focus on the handling of metadata in CLARINO; how we try to harmonize the metadata practice across centres, while retaining sufficient flexibility to satisfy the needs in the individual centres. This being ongoing work, I will report status, ideas and plans at the time of workshop.
15:15 Coffee
15:30 – 16:45 Informal Local Presentations and Discussion
About the speakers:
Oddrun Pauline Ohren is senior advisor at the National Library of Norway. She is CMDI and IsoCat coordinator in CLARINO, and thereby has the responsibility to harmonize the Norwegian centres’ use of CMDI components and profiles. She also participates at CLARIN level, in the CMDI taskforce (currently specifying a new version of the CMDI model; CMDI 1.2).
Peter Bouda is a co-founder of the Centro Interdisciplinar de Documentação Linguística e Social (CIDLeS) and the head of the CIDLeS Media Lab. He is responsible for the development of Poio API, a software library to manage and analyse linguistic data from language documentation projects. He is a member of the “Working Group 3: Linguistic Fieldwork, Anthropology, Language Typology” of CLARIN-D. He is also a researcher at the University of Marburg, within the project Quantitative Historical Linguistics. The project aims to uncover and clarify phylogenetic relationships between native South American languages using quantitative methods.
Alexander König is an archive manager at the Language Archive at the Max Planck Institute in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He is responsible for integrating new content into the archive, metadata- and annotation curation, and user interaction.
